Its Not A Far Walk

My recent move is a big change.  I am still adjusting to everything Portland.  A welcome change for me has been temperature.  It really isn't cold here.  There have been a few days in the thirties, but they did not last long.  I was told it is very rare.  The blistering wind is pretty much absent.  Granted, the rain comes and goes, but you can take it in stride.

I can't say it has been all peaches and cream.  It has been tough adjusting to our physical location.  We can't walk three blocks to anything.  We have to walk at least a half a mile to the bus stop, Kennedy School and Concordia Ale House.  I really enjoy walking, but its just not that convenient.

I know Federal Hill has spoiled my outlook so, I need to change some of my perspective.  Last night, we began that change.  Taking advantage of the mild weather, we walked from our house to Thai Noon. It is about a mile jaunt.  I can't say the walk was bad.  This was the first time we walked to the heart of Alberta, and I am glad it isn't very far!  This realization opens up other possibilities for walking.

After we picked up our Tom Yum and Tom Kha, I noticed it was time for Happy Hour.  Well, I'd been thinking about since we started the walk.  Binks looked inviting so we stopped in for a few beers.  Their Happy Hour microbrews are $2.50 a pop.  I choose the Rogue Dead Guy Ale, and Teresa went with her mainstay of Lagunitas IPA.  We had a couple of nice seats right at the bar.  We chatted up Led Zeppelin's impending reunion tour.  We pumped few dollars in the nicely mixed jukebox.  How is this for a quick set:  Beta Band, Prince, Bill Withers and The Rolling Stones.  Before too long, we headed home to enjoy our spicy and savory dinner.

The entire experienced was a fun time.  I am glad we continue to immerse ourselves in our new neighborhood.  It is very good we have been branching out a bit.  It is great to know the walk isn't a crazy distance.  I do know for a fact the weather is only going to get better.  Now we have to try a few more of the eateries up and down Alberta.
