Getting Out In My New City
First off, here is a quick introduction to my new place. I now live in Federal Hill! Yay South Baltimore. "I Love City Life." I have been here for about a month, and I really enjoy the new digs. I'm taking the train to work, and I don't really drive at all. Everything is pretty much in walking or biking distance. Here is a few shots of my house. I am on the end of the row.

The heart of Federal Hill is only a few blocks east, and the Inner Harbour is a few blocks north. Fells Point is a short cab or bike ride away. It is a sweet location. I took full advantage last Saturday night.
I met up with Kevin over at his house behind the stadiums. We pre-gamed for a bit, but ended up on the Westside at Maggie Moore's. Our group was over ten people so, we had a table in the backroom. This new irish pub is a converted bank. It has very high ceilings, and lots of woodwork decorating it's interior. They even have a small dining room in a vault. I sat and chatted with Kevin and friends about such interesting topics and giant squid and worms.
Eventually, we moved into the bar area, and the place began to fill. I kept on ordering these Maggie Moore's brews so, I asked the bartender where the brewery was located. In what appeared to be an actual irish accent, he replied, "We don't have a brewery. We buy some beer off a company called Redhook. Then we slap our name on it." Well, isn't that interesting. I should now second guess what appears to be decent local brews for faux beer.
While I drank my uh beer, I was hanging out with Preethe, Emily, and her boyfriend Bob. Maggie Moore's was a decent time, it wasn't a crazy fun Saturday night crowd. I would have liked to head back to Federal Hill so, I made the suggestion to split a cab back to South Baltimore. The three were up for the trip so, we sad our goodbyes.
It was cool to catch up with Preethe. I hadn't spent a lot of time in Baltimore since, I moved to Annapolis. The whole drinking and driving thing became less attractive. They are almost finished with this part of med-school and are scheduled to take the boards in December. Crazh how time flys. The cabbie let us off on E. Cross Street, and Preethe recommended Ropewalk. That was fine with me, I am trying to explore as much as possible. The place was crowded but not overly packed. Upstairs, a wedding party or bachelor party was making all kinds of noise. I was suprised to see the age of these guys. They couldn't have been over twenty-two. I also noticed a few pool tables, which could be a good time in the future. The four of us took up residence in the backbar for the rest of the night.
I started the walk home sometime around 1am. It was really fun to bounce around my new town. Kevin's friend's from med-school have always been fun and interesting characters. It will be a shame to see them all disperse to residencies in the new year. I'd go back to Maggie Moore's for some decent irish food, but maybe not to party. I'd like to hit Ropewalk with some folks that like pool. All and all, it was a good night. I just can't get over how close my house is to it all. Redundant, but, "I Love City Life."
