Introduced To DubStep

I finally stopped going to bed early on a Wednesday! Yippie! Due to my new location, I am much closer to Sonar. Pete had invited me to a Wednesday party called Exit. Scott, Heidi, and Cliff were to stop by as well. I took a cab through the Inner Harbour right at 10pm.

The first DJ is a friend of Petes, Joe Nice. Later, I found out he lives in Federal Hill. Sweet. Its nice to met a neighbor. He spins a new type of music to me, dubstep. It originated over in the UK, and is quite interesting. Sometimes, it feels like broken down drum and bass meats breaks. It can have melodic and warm overtones while picking up pass. Overall, its not as fluid as some other forms of edm, but I might get into it. Appearently, Joe Nice is world famous. He is credited with bringing dubstep to the US, and he has producers sending him music that no on else has access too. He is booked in NYC, San Francisco, London, and others. You can hear some of his stuff over on Gourmet Beats and BreaksFm.

The party is held in the lounge of Sonar. The club has changed over the year. They hold many more band nights in the warehouse then DJ nights in the club. I guess they have to make money somehow. The lounge is still pretty nice, and it is complete with a pool table. I love playing pool. I still have a sore spot in my heart from donating my pool table to charity. Where can a kid on the go stash one of those things? No where. Oh well, Cliff and I ran a few games, but Pete and Scott got the best of us. I played a few with Heidi, and we had an amazing comeback against Pete and Scott. In the end, I'd say Pete and Scott held the table down.

The night ended just before midnight. Late for my normal weeknight routine, but it was great to get out and play. I think this could become a regular occurance. It was great to see all the Baltimore kids. I haven't hung out in a few months. I can safely say, there will be plenty more days and nights. My new favorite slogan is, I Love City Life.
