Lapa Rock Show
Last evening was spent chillin in the Easy Hostel patio. We didn't let the rain damper our partying moods. We helped the hostel staff put up a tarp across the entire patio. I met a lot of people - Malcom, our resident Australian, Sunni and Kat from Denmark, Dave from Brooklyn, and Matt from Seattle, plus many more. Herczeg and I eventually took showers and cabbed it over to Copacabana. We planned on meeting Herb.
He is staying at a sweet HI place on Santa Clara. No rules HI - so not HI. A large group from there took cabs near the city center - Lapa. A street festival is happening there every night this week. We shared a cab with a few girls from a small town in Ontario - Genelle and Lindsay. They are some of the coolest girls I have met from Canada while traveling. They showed us around the park when got there. The party was right under the large arches. The entire group congragated there, and we proceeded to purchase Brahma Chopp and strong Caipirinhas. Street vendors lined the entire square. I also had a chicken shiscabab dipped in a vegatable sauce and bread crumbs. So Good. In the center of the square, a large concert stage was setup. There were people everywhere partying. We saw a samba band. The youngest memeber must have been 8 playing a drum. The next band was the brazilian equilvalent of Blink 182. It was fun to jump around, but I could have delt without the hour long set. The next band was more brazilian, but kind of poppy. Overall, it was a good show. All in Portuguese!
Ipanema Number 9
I just got back from the beach. Oh man, beach in February is perfect. I went to Ipanema Number 9 with Kat and Sunni. We rented beach chairs for basically pennies, and layed in the sun for a few hours. The beach is gorgeous. I mean sick. The Two Brothers mountains are in the background. Islands are just off the coast. Amazing. To escape the heat, Kat and I went into the water. The undertow is crazy, and I was swept head over heals more then once. Kat didn't even go out further then where the water went above your stomach. I ventured out a few times, but it was very rough. Besides the current, the water was so refreshing. Cold to the first touch, but temperate after a few minutes. Such a nice break from the hot sun. We are now back in Botafogo. We are gonna take showers, and head back to Ipanema for a parade starting around 4pm. I think Scott from my room will join us. I hope to be out to sunrise this night.
