La Bamba Meets Samba
Herb, Matt, and I spent six hours sleeping on the beach of Ipanema. The beach is a better place to sleep then the hostel. Herczeg stayed behind for whatever reason. Bad decision I say. Later in the day, we relaxed at the hostel with Scott, Steve, Teri, Renee, and Kelly. We looked in Rio For Partiers to check out the Friday night digs. A small club in Botafogo called Casa da Matriz looked sweet. A converted house with two dance floors. A hipsters hangout with an art gallery and Atari room. Approach Index of 4. Sold... *Thumbs Up*
The guys were tired so, I went out with my new found friends. The cab ride was easy and quick. We were inside the house party without problems. Kelly said it felt like a frat house. It was too nice to resemble my house in college. The first dance floor was sizable. The dj was mixing Samba with hip hop and funk. The beat was decent. A bar area served us cold beers and we chilled there for an hour. I talked with Teri about Baseball and our home area. She is originally from NW DC. Later in the night, we danced downstairs. Scott was getting ill with Renee. Steve bought me large pints of Belgium beer. It was good.
We retired upstairs to see the chillroom/art gallery full. The Atari room was quite empty, but people filled the second dance floor. The air was filled with tasty scents, and the music was so chill. La Bamba Meets Samba. No Lie. It wasn't fast enough to dance with, but the Brazilians still danced. We might have been the only foreigners in the place. I was in love with the mix - Funk, Samba, Downtempo, and ? I wish, I knew the name of the dj.
We finished the night with some Caipirinhas while sitting in recliners. This Casa da Matriz spot was so chill. I am glad we stopped by for a different experience. Plus, you could not beat the location. It was so nice to not travel all the way across town to have a great time. I hope that Steve had a fantastic time. He was back to Fort Worth, TX the next day. As for the girls and Scott, I am so jealous. Both are in the midst of Round-A-Bout. Jealousy. Jealousy. Jealousy. But, we take what we can get like 8 Days In Rio!
