Jardim Botanico
Saturday was cloudy in Rio. Boooooooo. We really wanted to sit on the beach all day long. We only have two days left!!! Instead of pouting at home, we took a trip over the Botanical Gardens - Jardim Botanico. They are located south of Lagoa under Corcovado. It is a direct bus ride from the Botafogo Metro. The girls from Boston tagged along for this adventure.
I can see why this place is critically acclaimed. I even wish we saw it with sunshine. We first visited their small but eloquent waterfalls. We continued on to a few house that contained many different types of flowers. I wish I still had my map, I can't remember the specific names of spots in the Parque Lage. We saw large bamboo plants that grew to form an enclosed site. We walked through a rose garden with some different colors and styles. There was also a Japanese Garden complete with a rock garden. We did see some wildlife, but not as much as I would hope. There was even a section dedicated to insectovores. Mark and Herb tried to feed a venus fly trap a fly. It didn't work out. The highlight might have been the large walkways lined with tall palm trees. The sun began to peak through, and it was an amazing site. I took a lot of pictures, and a few turned out fantastic. This place was an excellent way to spend the afternoon.
